The area of Maychew town is 1,455.68 ha and its shape is compact . Its altitude is 2400 m

above sea level;  Mean Annual Temperature 15.5^C; Mean Annual Rainfall is 785mm

and the prevailing wind direction is from West to East. The principal natural constraints for the

physical expansion of the town are the existence of mountains in all surrounding areas except

the eastern part and flood problem while  conflicts between urban and rural boundary due to

lack of compensation payments for rural peasants are the manmade constraints.
