1.1 Location
Gonder town is located in the northern part of Ethiopia in Amhara National Regional State, North Gonder Zone at a distance of 747 km from Addis Ababa and 170km from the Regional capital Bahirdar. Its astronomical location is 12º45’North latitude and 37º45’ East longitude.
1.2 Foundation
Gonder was founded in 1643.
Gonder is one of the reform towns in the region and has a city administration, city service office, 12 sub-cities, 12 urban kebelles, and 10 rural kebelles. The town has a structural plan which was prepared in 2004.
