4.1 Urban Economy and Status of the Town
The town is administration and trade center. The main trade activities in the town are retail and service trades. The average annual revenue of the municipality is 518,162 Birr and the major sources of revenue were taxes, rent and service charges. Sekota has economic linkages with the surrounding areas and towns in the region. The town gets grain products from Gojam, manufactured products from Dessie and Addis Ababa, cement and construction materials from Mekelle and sends livestock to Mekelle.

Education
There are two kindergartens; eight primary and secondary schools and one senior secondary school including preparatory in the town.
Health
Regarding health services in the town there are one hospital, one health center and one health post.
Municipal Services
Sekota town has public meeting hall, abattoir, and market. Regarding religious services there are six churches for Orthodox Christians, and one mosque.
