4.1 Urban Economy and Role of the Town
The town is administration and trade center. There are 88 manufacturing, 21 wholesales, 617 retail trades, 518 service trades, three fuel stations and nine garages in the town. There are commercial Bank of Ethiopia and Dashen Bank giving services in the town. There are 926 males and 1,189 females unemployed in the town. The major investment opportunities in the town are-: tourism and commerce.

Education
There are five government kindergartens; fifteen government primary and junior secondary schools and two high schools including preparatory in Woldia town.
Health
Regarding health services in the town, there are one government hospital, one health center, one health post and seven government clinics.
Municipal services
Woldia town has meeting hall, public library, two ambulances, abattoir, municipal cemetery, general and cattle markets. Liquid waste is collected using rental vacuum truck. There is 400 – 600m2 urban greenery, forest around Kidane Mehiret Church and street trees are also planted in limited parts of the town. There is one playground and three medium and many small hotels in the town.
