According to the National Population and Housing Census projection of 2011, the population of the town was 170,267.  Out of this 75,302 (44%) were males and 94,965 (56%) were females. Regarding age distribution, 51,081 (30%) were within the age group of 0-15 years, 114,078 (67%) within 16-60 years, and 5,108 (3%) 61 years and above. The average household size in the town was calculated to be 4.5, while the annual population growth rate within the 2001-2012 was estimated to be 1.8 %.
