1.1 Location

Dessie town is located in northern part of Ethiopia in Amhara National Regional State, South Wello Zone at a distance of 400 km from Addis Ababa. Its astronomical location is 11º08’ North Latitude and 39º38’ East Longitude.

1.2 Foundation

The city was founded in 1882.

Dessie is one of the reform towns in the region and has a city administration consisting of municipality and 10 urban and six rural kebelles. The town has a structural plan which was prepared in 2010.
